Tech Grants for Nonprofits: What’s Out There?

For many nonprofits, grants are important resources that help fund access to essential technologies. The government, foundations and private companies all offer funding to help nonprofits get affordable access to tech tools for advancing their mission and increasing their capacity.

Today, we’re sharing insights on how some of the largest tech companies are teaming up with nonprofits to meet certain technological needs.

Google

Google.org is a branch of Google dedicated to charitable giving. The organization offers funding, innovation and technical expertise to underserved communities and awards $200 million to nonprofits around the world each year. The Google.org Impact Challenge allows nonprofits to submit ideas on how to tackle a specific community challenge, and the group that submits the idea ultimately selected by Google will receive funding for the cause. Make sure to stay tuned to this page for the company’s next challenge announcement.

The Google for Nonprofits program is another way Google seeks to help nonprofits reach key audiences and spread the word about the organization’s mission. The program offers a few different ways to receive assistance from the company, including funding for Google text ads, discounted GSuite accounts and utilization of Google Earth and Maps to create data visualizations that demonstrate an organization’s impact.

Twilio

Twilio is a platform that seeks to streamline communications across a business. The company is part of the Pledge 1% movement and has dedicated one percent of Twilio’s equity to support an impact fund called Twilio.org. This organization provides up to $150,000 in grant funding to nonprofits annually. The company notifies organizations directly when a grant cycle opens, so make sure you sign up through the website

Lyft

Lyft, a rideshare company connecting people with transportation, seeks to help communities through donations and by providing transportation to underserved groups. The company also grants $20,000 in ride credits to nonprofits across the country through the LyftUp Community Grants Program. The program is open year-round and only requires a one-time application.

TechSoup

TechSoup is a company that seeks to equip nonprofits with the technology and skills needed for day-to-day operations. In addition to discounted access to several software programs, TechSoup provides tech support and online courses covering topics from email marketing to Google Analytics. This is a great turnkey resource for any organization seeking to obtain skills and access to helpful technologies.
