United Way of Greater Cincinnati launches a new initiative to strengthen partners through a capacity-building partnership with Resilia

Partnership will support the specific capacity building needs of change-makers within UWGC’s Black Empowerment Works and Systems Change Investments

New Orleans, LA. - Resilia, a social enterprise with offices in New Orleans and New York City, and the United Way of Greater Cincinnati have come together to strengthen the capacity of its partners in a new partnership to empower change-makers with technology, coaching, and peer mentorship.

United Way of Greater Cincinnati believes that all families in the Greater Cincinnati region deserve economic well-being, so they build solutions and align systems so that people can thrive. A part of this work is supporting community services. This new partnership targets two program areas in UWGC's portfolio, enhancing support within its Black-Led Social Change and Systems Change investment portfolios. The Black-Led Social Change (BLSC) initiative encompasses organizations, ideas and strategies led by individuals who identify as Black, and that aim to build power and positive outcomes within the population. UWGC's Black Empowerment Works program - a part of the BLSC initiative - specifically invests in grassroots leaders and their work. This aligns with UWGC's core work of systems change, investing in a diverse set of partners that are aligned around shared, measurable, systems change opportunities.

In UWGC and Resilia's collaboration, invited partners will be able to access Resilia’s multi-faceted capacity-building program as they work towards organizational sustainability. The Resilia program helps change-makers build mission-facing and back-office capacity while helping to elevate stories and data that drive advocacy and fundraising efforts. This is enabled through a combination of an online platform, unlimited 1:1 nonprofit coaching and a peer-to-peer learning model, thereby enabling multiple entry points into capacity building and meeting nonprofits where they are.

“At United Way of Greater Cincinnati, we believe those closest to a particular challenge are likely closest to the solution,” said Moira Weir, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Cincinnati. “This belief was one of our primary motivations for launching our Black-led Social Change initiative and for transforming the way we work across all of our initiatives. But we know that providing access to funding is only part of the solution. We are excited to enter this partnership with Resilia to strengthen and build the capacity of change-makers in our community. We expect the platform and affiliated services will be game-changing.”

“UWGC's equity framework empowers grassroots leaders with the resources they need to build power and positive impact for their communities," says Resilia CEO and Founder Sevetri Wilson. “We are honored to support these change-makers and leaders and grateful for the opportunity to support their work."

Through the partnership, UWGC has also joined Resilia’s flagship ELEVATE initiative, a first-of-its-kind national funders Learning & Action Network comprising more than a dozen grant-makers and aimed at elevating the capacity and voices of BIPOC-led and BIPOC-serving grassroots organizations throughout the country.
